Quartz is an earth-founding natural material. It is the second-most abundant material in the earth’s crust. This mineral forms from silicon crystallization. Many countertops can be made from engineered granite, which is ninety-percent crushed Quartz mixed with ten percent resin to adjust the form and style and bind together the materials.

Granite: What does it mean?

Granite is a form of igneous rock that is made up mainly of Quartz but also micas and feldspar. Granite is a hard, granular rock mined from the earth’s crust. Granite is a natural rock. Every slab has a unique appearance and natural pigments.

Difference between Quartz vs. Granite

Granite and Quartz are two popular countertop options. However, there are some key differences in how they look and their durability.

Complement: Granite contains Quartz and other natural materials. Quartz countertops are infused with resins to retain their form and customize their appearance.

Atmosphere: Quartz countertops have a more natural look, while granite countertops Denver look more like stone. This can be a benefit: Quartz countertops can mimic the veining in marble countertops’ without paying for expensive limestone.

Texture: Granite is cut directly from the ground in slabs. It has an easier texture and a more porous surface. It is much easier to repair chipping than Quartz.

Water and heat resistance. Quartz is also more resistant to water, but granite is stronger and can last a long time if maintained properly.

Pros of Quartz vs. Granite

Granite and quartz countertops each have their unique set of benefits and drawbacks. The following factors can help homeowners make the right choice.

Durability: Granite is best for kitchen countertops. Quartz works better for bathroom countertops. Quartz is less porous than granite, so it performs better in areas where there is more moisture. Granite countertops see a lot of wear, but granite can last a lifetime when properly cared for. The granite countertop can last for a long time if it is properly maintained (i.e., adding a sealant to the surface every year). Natural granite can also withstand heat better than Quartz, which means you can place hot pots directly on it. Quartz countertops may be damaged by excessive sunlight or hot pans.

Cost: Quartz and Granite are more expensive than laminate countertops. Natural quartz costs twice as much per square footage as granite.

Clean ability: Both materials can be cared for easily. Granite and Quartz both require regular cleaning in order to minimize staining. Quartz countertops are stain-resistant because it isn’t porous. It is best to wipe it clean immediately after spilling any liquid other than water. Granite is relatively easy to maintain. However, granite needs to be sealed once per year. Without a sealer, the material may become porous.

Appearance: Quartz and granite are both solid surfaces. But the former is organic and can have a more natural appearance which can help increase the value of your house. Granite shines with its beautiful natural colors and swirls. Quartz is customizable. It can also be dyed to a variety of color options and even come in different patterns. Engineered Quartz will be more natural looking despite its many color options.
